As people in the profession of helping young people and their families decide on their next steps in higher education, our everyday experience is facilitating conversations between people who often see the world very differently. When we combine that dynamic with conversations around diversity and inclusion, things can get even more complex. 

Based on their latest book, Courageous Discomfort, Rosalind Wiseman and Shanterra McBride give the answers to handling these complex dynamics. Courageous Discomfort acknowledges the challenges of breaking through our hesitancy, frustration, and fear around issues of diversity and inclusion by grounding our thinking and actions in dignity—the belief that everyone has the right to be recognized for their inherent worth. It is only from this foundation that we can transform our work and family relationships with the skills to be effective advocates and allies for building diverse communities where all feel welcome.
