The American School of Recife is pleased to host Rosalind Wiseman for a two-day professional development training for international school educators and leaders: “More than a Program”: Shaping School Culture through Practical and Proven SEL.
This experience is designed for schools that want to go beyond social and emotional learning as a stand-alone initiative and instead use it as a practical, daily framework for strengthening school culture.
Combining Rosalind’s decades of work with young people and educators with her collaboration with Professor David Yeager on 10 to 25: The Science of Motivating Young People , this training gives participants a clear, research-based approach to motivation, trust, accountability, and communication.
Throughout the two days, participants will work in interactive cohorts, applying ideas to real situations from their own schools. Before the training, Rosalind will provide five questions for participants to ask their students so they arrive with authentic insight from their own communities.
At the end of Day 1, participants will identify five questions they most want answered about young people, and Rosalind’s editorial advisors will respond so those insights can shape and deepen the work of Day 2.
Participants will leave with practical tools to:
● Increase student motivation without relying on control, compliance, or power struggles
● Communicate with students in ways that build trust while maintaining high standards
● Strengthen student voice so it becomes a meaningful part of school culture rather than a symbolic gesture
● Apply strategies immediately in classrooms, advisory, student leadership, and everyday interactions with young people This is not a training built around abstract ideals. It is a hands-on, deeply relevant experience for educators and leaders who want practical language, useful frameworks, and strategies they can put to work right away.
