Training
The Owning Up Training Institute is an intensive, interactive 2-day professional development training integrates the latest resources on peer aggression with the Owning Up™ Curriculum. Participants leave with concrete strategies for confronting social cruelty, bullying, and injustice in their communities.
During the Owning Up™ training participants will:
- Become certified to implement the Owning Up™ Curriculum in their school or organization.
- Learn how to deal effectively with bullying, cliques, harassment and exclusion among young people.
- Explore the root causes of relational aggression with leading experts.
- Examine the social science that links gender socialization and violence.
- Learn and share strategies with teachers, counselors and professionals from around the world.
- Become leaders in creating safe schools and communities.
- Promote youth leadership in these efforts by establishing and encouraging youth-driven violence prevention initiatives.
Topics covered under the training include: teasing, bullying, social aggression, discrimination, group dynamics and social roles, sexual harassment and dating violence, media and youth culture, body image, cyber bullying, social justice, and adolescent development.
Participation Requirements
Participants must have a professional affiliation with a school or youth-service provider. In some cases parents associated with the school or organization may attend when they are working to develop a program.
Educators from any subject area or grade level are invited to attend. All participants must complete and submit an application for review.
We welcome those who enjoy teaching students through discussion, debate, and interactive activities. Participants should arrive with an open mind and ready to contribute.
