About Shanterra
Shanterra McBride is the founder and director of PLOT-Preparing Leaders Of Today, a company committed to inspiring young people to be more than what’s expected, more than what’s required, and more than what’s modeled. She is a sought-after speaker on all things related to young people, including youth development, youth leadership and issues often prominent with adolescents, such as friendships, cyber bullying, including sexting, communities and teen relationships. McBride speaks throughout the country at schools, corporations, universities, faith-based organizations and a variety of associations. She has been interviewed by various media, including National Public Radio, Essence magazine, and an assortment of ABC, CBS, CNN, FOX and NBC affiliates.
McBride is an educator with RPW, Inc., as a Master Trainer with Rosalind Wiseman for the Owing Up© curriculum. She is also a consultant with the DC Children & Youth Investment Trust Corporation as a Best Practices trainer for the Advancing Youth Development curriculum where she has trained over 4,000 front-line youth workers and managers in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
For four years, McBride was the national spokesperson for Unicel‘s StandUp! program which drew attention to the issue of cyber bullying, educated students and parents about this cruel form of bullying and gave them tools to prevent it. The Stand Up! program reached over 7,000 students in rural areas where tourism, agriculture, and small businesses are prevalent. She is currently a member of the Best Buy @15 Advisory Board, Best Buy’s corporate philanthropy that lets teens decide how the company should donate its money.
McBride’s zeal for young people and youth leadership is not limited to adolescents. As a cluster facilitator for LeaderShape, Inc., she works with college students from around the country to improve society by inspiring, developing, and supporting more people to lead with integrity. The week long institute is an opportunity to serve as a leadership role model for the students.
McBride received a Master’s degree from Gonzaga University in Organizational Leadership. She was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and after obtaining a B.A. in Sociology and a B. A. in Public Affairs and Corporate Communications from Southern Methodist University, McBride moved to the Washington, DC metropolitan area where she was determined to change the world. Her change agent avenue was as an AmeriCorps VISTA member where she served as the Service Learning Coordinator for a local high school.
Service is still very important to her and therefore McBride volunteers with several organizations including the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc., Imagine Me Ministries, Be Girls Camp and the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Leadership Development Institute. She is also an alumnus of the New Leaders Academy and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
