I hope these two comments really give parents pause about what they say to their kids. Because I would bet that both of these parents think they are being helpful.

Hi. My parents are always calling me fat, and it makes me feel hideous. Its hard for me waking up every morning and the first thing your parents say to you is “you’re overweight” or “you got to stop eating, you look fat.” It makes me run into my room and cry every single time. They’re always telling people how fat and they’re always comparing me to other people. I’ve been starving myself for a while now… They are always putting me down.

Hi I am a 12 year old girl who is 5’0 and 118 pounds. My parents are constantly telling me about my weight! I’m not that fat. I have a little belly but not much!!! My dad is always saying “that’s gonna make you gain weight!” or “that’s loaded with calories!” or “your getting too big”. when I eat, he makes disgusting faces. I hear him whisper to my mom sometimes “Julia is getting pretty big” and it feels awful! Please help.
